“There had been an incident, a fight, a disturbance, a blow-up… whatever you want to call it...

In front of my children. It wasn’t the first time. It wasn’t the first time my children tried to stand up for me. It wasn’t the first time my baby buried her head in my neck because she felt scared. I was far enough down this road that I couldn’t even remember the first time. I had filed for divorce just days after my baby was born. But I sat several months later not having a clue what to do… knowing, yet not knowing, how much things needed to change.

I was desperate for help.

I came across a social media post for A New Direction. You see, some of my friends (maybe even a board member or two) were aware of this great organization and shared something.

I called – I felt so vulnerable.

I had decided that the last thing I wanted was my children to view these experiences as normal and healthy. After my first appointment at AND, I knew that staying was not an option; I did the work, I went through the process.

You see, victims of domestic violence need legal advocacy, they need a non-judgmental listening ear, they need nurturing for it’s not just getting into a safer place in life, it’s a process. If I didn’t have AND to help me address how I got here, how to take my own power back and stand up for myself I wouldn’t be where I am today. It took over 3 years to get divorced and the legal advocacy services helped me every step of the way.

8 years later myself and my children still benefit from the services offered by AND – both legal advocacy and counseling. My children too needed to be heard and learn to maneuver our ever-changing lives. It has not been easy for them, but now they run up to the door on the day of their appointments because they’ve learned that with their own power, they can work through their issues and face them head on.

I can only imagine how life would be for them if I had stayed that day and never called A New Direction.” ~ AND Survivor

A New Direction's 2020 Sponsorship Drive

Nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States; nearly half of all women and men in the US will experience psychological aggression by an intimate partner in their lifetime. (ncadv.org, nnedv.org)

Since 2011, A New Direction Beverly Morgan Park has provided hope to clients while working to change these statistics by providing counseling, education, advocacy, and support. Our annual fundraiser is our largest source of funding and is critical to our agency being able to provide services to families in need. This year, we will not be able to hold this event out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our sponsors, donors, clients and staff. We will miss seeing all of you this year.

Support at all levels are welcome and appreciated. Some suggested sponsorship levels are listed below:
